Bundelkhand Bulls are the latest team to the Madhya Pradesh T20 League, and they seem to have put together a well-balanced squad.

The captain hasn't been officially named yet, but it looks like fast bowler Avesh Khan is the frontrunner for the role. Before getting into that, let’s break down the batting lineup.

Harsh Gawli was the third-highest scorer in the MP League 2024 with 198 runs in six outings. He made the most of his Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy chance last season by hitting a half-century and averaging 26, while striking at over 130. With three First-Class centuries already under his belt, he’ll be aiming for more consistency this time with Bundelkhand.

Abhishek Pathak had a strong showing last season, piling up 269 runs across five matches. His ability to accelerate in the lower order could come in handy.

The lineup is further bolstered by the presence of Abhishek Mavi, Shantanu Raghuvanshi, and Somu Sikarwar, who round out the batting unit.

Avesh Khan is expected to lead the bowling unit and bring his IPL and international experience into play. He’ll be ed by Saumy Pandey, Shubham Kaithwas, and Priyanshu Shukla, who add to the team’s options in the bowling department.

Rewa Jaguars Preview

Rewa Jaguars head into the season hoping to bounce back after a poor run last year, where they finished second from the bottom with just one win in four outings.

This time, Himanshu Mantri takes charge as captain. He’s a skilled wicketkeeper-batter and was the leading run-scorer for the Jaguars last year. He’ll once again be central to their batting.

Prithviraj Singh Tomar is another player worth tracking. He made 101 runs across four matches last season, with a strike rate of 103.23.

Sagar Solanki and Jaydev Singh add some much-needed depth to the lineup. Solanki is a young all-rounder with a solid batting game and useful spin during the middle overs.

The bowling attack, though, will lean on Shivam Shukla and Kumar Kartikeya to grab the breakthroughs. Shukla led the bowling effort last season, grabbing 10 wickets in four games while keeping it tight with an economy rate of 6.94.

Scoring tends to come easily at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium with a flat surface and relatively small boundaries. Batters can go hard from the start, especially during the powerplay. Bowlers don’t get much movement, except with the new ball under the lights, so pace off and smart variation are usually the better options. Spinners can have a say if they’re brave enough to flight it. Chasing sides often feel more confident, especially under lights when the ball comes on better. Expect plenty of runs. 

The weather in Gwalior is expected to be hot and humid, with no chance of rain to disrupt proceedings.

Some of the matches in the MP T20 League 2024 at the Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium saw totals of 278, 239, and 249, with Jabalpur Lions hitting 249 in the final to seal the title. A similar run-heavy game is on the cards here, with the pitch expected to stay friendly for batters across both innings. A first-innings score of around 200 to 220 would give the batting side a decent shot at controlling the game.
