After England Women whitewashed West Indies Women 3-0 in the WT20I series, the teams lock horns once again but this time in the 50-over format over three matches.
This opening game of the series takes place at the County Ground, Derby with a 1pm start during the half-term holidays so there should be an excellent crowd at the venue on Friday!
Recent WODIs between England Women and West Indies Women have been very one-sided with England Women winning the last three clashes by over 140 runs.
However, those games were back in December 2022 and both teams have new coaches and captains in place.
It's a new series, the question is, will it be the same result?

After such strong performances with both bat and ball during the WT20Is, there will be plenty of confidence in the England Women's squad ahead of this opening game of the WODI series.
But there is still a bit of the unknown now that England Women have a new coach and a new captain in this format. Nat Sciver-Brunt captained intelligently in the WT20I series and this longer format should give us all an opportunity to see her show off her tactical abilities.
The experienced Tammy Beaumont is expected to continue at the top of the order and she will look to play the anchor role with Sophia Dunkley likely to take the attack to the West Indies Women's bowlers.
Without Sophie Ecclestone, there will be plenty of opportunities for Charlie Dean and Alice Davidson-Richards to show off their spinning skills while Kate Cross and Lauren Bell will provide the pace!
Nat Sciver Brunt has scored 940 runs in 28 WODI matches played at Derby and averages 44.76. She is in sublime form at the moment and is coming on the back of a fine knock in the 3rd T20I against West Indies. Given her record at Derby and recent form, we back Sciver Brunt to score over 32 runs in today's match.

This will be West Indies Women''s first WODI action since April when they took part in the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier 2025.
Although they finished in a disappointing third place with Bangladesh Women and Pakistan Women above them, they won three of their last four matches which was impressive considering the games took place in Lahore where the conditions did not suit West Indies Women.
Just as we saw during the WT20Is, West Indies Women are likely to rely heavily on all-rounder and captain Hayley Matthews who has scored 2922 runs and taken 119 wickets in this format.
Aaliyah Alleyne and Afy Fletcher both impressed with the ball during the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier 2025 and we anticipate that they, along with Matthews, will be the biggest threat in Derby,
Hayley Matthews scored two half centuries in the last three matches on the tour so far and is the lone West Indies batter to have troubled the England bowlers. At Derby, Matthews has played 4 matches and scored 78 runs, averaging 19.50. We back Matthews to start the ODI series on a positive note and score over 28 runs in the 1st ODI.

Humid conditions are forecast throughout the day in Derby on Friday with the temperature in the mid-high teens. There could be some rain in the early afternoon before dry conditions in the second half of the afternoon and into the early evening.

Average TurnThis will be a good batting surface in Derby with consistent bounce and a quick outfield. There will be turn for the spinners and the overhead conditions could also assist the swing bowlers. A par score will be around 270.
We back the home team England to win the coin toss in the 1st ODI against West Indies.
There is likely to be a threat of rain throughout the first innings with clear skies only in the second inning. With better bowling conditions early on, we predict that both captain will want to bowl first.
After seeing England Women dominate the WT20Is, we expect to see the hosts on top again in this 50-over format. West Indies Women do not have the strength across their batting line-up and that could be the main issue for them in this opening WODI.
