The London derby is here and it’s shaping up to be an exciting clash, as both Essex and Middlesex are looking for their first victory in the tournament. Essex suffered two defeats while Middlesex got trounced in their only clash, so expect both teams to come hard at each other so they can get their campaign back on track in the Vitality Blast 2024.
Essex will be hoping that their return to home turf at Chelmsford, after two games, will help them turn it around. In addition, they have an excellent record against Middlesex at this venue, with 10 wins from 16 games.
They’ll head into this match with their tails up. On the other hand, Middlesex will be looking to exploit any weaknesses in Essex's recent play, especially in their bowling attack which at times has been clueless when the batsmen start counterattacking.

The Eagles have gotten off to a shaky start in their Vitality Blast 2024 campaign, suffering defeats in their opening two matches against Gloucestershire and Somerset. Batting first on both occasions, their scores of 141-9 and 193-6 proved insufficient in the end.
In Bristol, their bowling attack was unable to contain the Gloucestershire batsmen, who chased down the target with three overs to spare. In Taunton, despite having put on board a more respectable total, Essex's bowlers were again put to the sword as Somerset romped home with five balls remaining.
Essex will be looking to address these batting shortcomings and find a way to defend totals on home soil. They will need a significant contribution from their top order batsmen Adam Rossington and Dean Elgar, who set things alight against Somerset after falling for single digit in the opener against Gloucestershire. Jordan Cox, Paul Walter and Daniel Sams need to lay a foundation for them to go off during the death overs.
With the bowling attack also leaking runs, Captain Simon Harmer and the likes of Daniel Sams and Paul Walter will need to step up and provide Essex with some much-needed wickets.

Middlesex's opening match against Kent Spitfires was one to forget. They were thoroughly outplayed with both bat and ball, losing by a massive margin of 98 runs. Their batting, in particular, was a major cause for concern. Openers Stephen Eskinazi and the new recruit Leus du Plooy, who has moved in from Derbyshire, failed to provide a solid launchpad. The captain started looking good but was dismissed before he could get to his 30.
Max Holden and Ryan Higgins who are so destructive at the top of the order, were both dismissed cheaply. Joe Cracknell also failed with the bat, but Jack Davies and Luke Hollman put together a partnership to take Middlesex to a respectable score, but Kent bowlers mopped them up inside 15 overs for a paltry 107 runs. Luke Hollman bowled incredibly well to pick up three wickets and Blake Cullen and Tom Helm took 5 wickets between them. The rest of the bowlers struggled to make inroads into the Kent batting line-up, allowing them to notch up a 200+ total. This defeat will have significantly dented Middlesex's confidence, but they'll be looking to bounce back quickly.
The core group of players like Luke Hollman, who is a consistent performer with both bat and ball, will be crucial in Middlesex pulling off a swift recovery act. The arrival of the South African batsman, Leus du Plooy, , is a welcome boost. He is expected to do well at the top of the order alongside captain Eskinazi, who ended up as the top run scorer for Middlesex in last year's competition.

The stage is set for a belter of a T20 match, and if the deck at Chelmsford behaves just like it did the other day, we may see another high scoring slugfest. A bit of sun and warm weather is forecast for the day, but we may see a few clouds move in during the course of the match.
This match is all set to happen at the County Ground, Chelmsford. Middlesex Panthers to visit, having managed just 6 wins from 16 completed matches here, will certainly call it one of those unlucky venues to visit.
The venue has been great for chasing, and most teams that opted to chase here last season ended up winning. Don’t be surprised if Simon Harmer or Stephen Eskinazi opt to put the opposition in after winning the toss.
With both teams struggling to open their , it’s a little difficult to call. It may end up being a close encounter as last time, but we’re siding with Essex for this one and expect them to come good playing in front of their home crowd.
We are backing Essex Eagles as winners of this contest.
