The T20 blast is back this weekend after a short break with Gloucestershire taking on Kent Spitfires. Kent has had a shocker so far, losing all five of their recent encounters.
Gloucestershire, by contrast, is enjoying a nice little momentum burst, with three back to back wins and a tie to their credit. Their fortunes turned after that brilliant tie against Surrey, a match that they had no right to win after Surrey’s top order batsmen took their team to a position from which they cannot lose.
The home team will take heart from their spectacular performance in whites just a couple of days ago at the same venue against Glamorgan, where they staved off a defeat and pushed the Welsh team to settle for a nerve-jangling tie on the very last ball of the game.
Kent needs to be a little cautious coming up against a quality side like Gloucestershire, who’re riding a high and are hell-bent on making winning a habit across formats.

Gloucestershire are in a relatively comfortable position, sitting fifth on the table with 4 wins and 3 losses from their 7 matches. Their campaign, surprisingly, turned a corner after a thrilling tie against Surrey at the Oval.
Three wins back to back against Kent, Glamorgan and Somerset mean they’re in striking distance from the top four, and a string of wins in the coming matches will put them in a solid position to qualify for the knockouts. The opening pair of Miles Hammond, Cameron Bancroft have done well, but Gloucestershire need their middle order batters such as Ben Charlesworth to keep contributing consistently and make some big scores.
James Bracey is coming off a terrific century against Surrey in the recent Div 1 encounter which ended in a thrilling tie. The bowling attack paints a similar story, with David Payne and Matt Taylor taking the bulk of the wickets and doing the heavy lifting early on with the new ball.
Seamers like Marchant de Lange and Joshua Shaw, and left arm twitcher van Buuren need to come to the party and play a crucial hand in bowling the opposition out if they are to challenge much stronger sides.

Languishing in eighth position on the points table, Kent are going through a rough patch. Unable to inject any momentum into their campaign, Kent have just managed 2 wins from their 8 games so far. Their bowling and batting attack haven’t fired as a whole at all, with their pacers and spinners struggling to pick up wickets at crucial junctures, and their batsmen finding it difficult to score runs at will.
On the bowling front, Nathan Gilchrist has done well picking up 6 wickets from 3 games so far. But he can’t do it all alone and needs more from the likes of Grant Stewart, who has failed to replicate his previous season's success, and Beyers Swanepoel.
Spin hasn't been much better either, with Matt Parkinson, the leg-spinner, providing decent control in the middle overs but he hasn’t been able to run through batting orders. On the batting front, Sam Billings has done well with his 300 runs coming at a good average and a brilliant strike rate.
Daniel Bell Drummond and Joe Denly are nowhere near what they can produce but have still contributed 209 and 162 runs respectively. . A strong showing at Cheltenham is crucial for Kent to revive their playoff hopes.

This venue has a bit of a reputation for being a good batting strip. However, with cloudy skies and a light shower forecast, bowlers might find some purchase in favorable conditions.
The College Ground in Cheltenham will play host to this contest after that historic tie between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan a couple of days ago. This match marks the first of three games for Gloucestershire in this year’s tournament.
One of those grounds where it is fun to chase down a target no matter how big it is. With weather being a little finicky, both captains might be eager to put the opposition in to bat.
On current form, Gloucestershire should win this hands-down. Momentum is on their side and they have the home advantage coming into this fixture, making them clear favorites. However, they’ll not take Kent lightly, who are desperate to turn their fortunes around.
We are backing Gloucestershire as winners of this contest.
