It’s not been 24 hours yet since Joburg Bangla Tigers and Bulawayo Brave Jaguars squared off, and here they are all set to go again for Round 2. Yesterday’s match, given the manner in which it panned out, has set the stage for another interesting duel.
The ebb and flow of the last encounter made for great viewing, but it was Joburg Bangla Tigers who clinched a come-from-behind victory and picked up crucial points.
With just two more matches to go before the league stage draws to a close, team Joburg would aim to continue their momentum and improve their standings on the points table.
And for team Bulawayo, it is all about salvaging some pride and perhaps spoil the party for a few teams before they sign off. Last year, these teams looked a whole lot different in of their squad. And, Joburg defeated Bulawayo on both their previous meetings.

Five matches into the season, the Joburg Bangla Tigers are still fiddling with their opening combination.
The Afghan opening pair of Shahzad and Zazai struggled early on, leading to the think tank bringing Chris Lynn in to see how he goes about the job. But with the Lynn experiment not taking off, they tried Kusal Perera at the top briefly, but that didn’t work out either.
The team's fragile top order has forced captain Sikandar Raza to bat out of position, but his exceptional short-format skills shone through helping him see off a chase with a brilliant 60. Charith Asalanka hasn’t set the stage on fire and neither has Karim Janat, but Tashinga Musekiwa seems locked and loaded down the order.
Joburg Bangla Tigers’ bowling has not been on the money either, but nevertheless they got the job done when it mattered. Barring a few bowlers who’ve come in and gone out, the core of the bowling group has remained the same. Luke Wood, Adam Milne and Tinashe Muchawaya take care of the pace bowling duties, whereas skipper Raza, George Linde, and Antum Naqvi take the spin bowling reins. Karim Janat slips in a couple of overs of military medium without anyone noticing, and has proven more than handy on different occasions.

Team Bulawayo went by a different moniker last season — Bulawayo Braves. Rechristening the name of the franchise and shuffling players seem to haven’t brought in any luck whatsoever. With just two more matches to go, here they are trying hard to avoid carrying the wooden spoon for the second time in a row.
Laurie Evans, with his personal form a cause for concern, was not able to get his teammates to contribute consistently. David Warner was made captain and his batting form dropped as well. With established players like Warner and Evans going through a lean patch, uncapped cricketers Nick Hobson and Kobe Herft have put their hand up. Known for their free-flowing batting style, they have sent out a clear signal that they’re cut for the shortest form of cricket. Credit to the young Englishman Herft for contributing to the team’s cause regardless of whether the slot requires him to face up to the new ball or whack bowlers at the death.
Not much can be said about the other batsman except Anamul Haque and Carlos Brathwaite who briefly illustrated on separate instances the kind of carnage they can possibly cause on their day. As some of the batsmen wait with bated breath to rediscover their touch, the bowlers aren’t in a great place either. The bowling unit has lacked consistency, with the pace bowlers struggling when the spinners perform well, and vice versa.
Even yesterday, when Kusal Perera took Ngarava to the cleaners, Masakadza's spin bowling was crucial in knocking back a couple of wickets and restoring some semblance of sanity to the chase. They’ve had some good matches individually but haven’t been able to make a bigger impact bowling as a collective.

The Harare pitch has been good for batting all the way through. But in T10 games its hardly about the pitch. All that matters is intent and having the right plan to back it up. Openers who play fearlessly can cash in and the make most of the fielding restrictions in place. The weather forecast for the match is clear, perfect for some high intensity T10 cricket.
The match will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe. Joburg got the better off last season with back to back victories, but it’s a totally new season and Joburg piled on the agony on Bulawayo yesterday with another win here.
It has almost become a norm to win toss and opt to bowl first. Joburg didn’t hesitate to put Bulawayo in to bat and followed their decision through with some disciplined bowling. We guess the team winning the toss might come out with a similar blueprint for this game.
Joburg Bangla Tigers have most of their bases covered and are looking a much more potent and confident outlook than their counterparts in Bulawayo Brave Jaguars. Our money is on Joburg.
