Jamaica Tallawahs will face the runners-up of last year, Barbados Royals in their second match of the season in St Lucia. Though Tallawahs managed to win their opening game defending a 187-run total, only the skipper, Brandon King looked in good touch with the bat.

The rest of the batting lineup in JT struggled to get going and in the 77-run stand for the 4th wicket between King and Raymon Reifer, the latter only contributed 16 off 18 balls.

Barbados Royals were unlucky in this regard as they did not have any hero who could step up to the occasion as they crumbled while chasing 202 runs against Saint Lucia Kings.

Rakheem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers will be expected to deliver a better start this time around. Donavon Ferreira is another key player in this lineup and will be one to watch out for in the lower order.

Both teams have tried to strike a balance between experience and youth in their squad this season and while their starts haven’t been ideal, they will be hungry for runs, nonetheless.

Jamaica Tallawahs Preview

Jamaica Tallawahs need to find their rhythm before it's too late. The L isn’t as long as other leagues like IPL or BBL and each team plays only 10 matches. 

If they lose most of their games in the first half, chances are they will struggle to make it to the top four and even if they do, since there are only 5 other teams to compete with, they won’t have the momentum to reach the final.

While a loss can be compensated for, lack of form is the real concern. With Brandon King being the lone fighter in the first game, Tallawahs will be now expecting the likes of Shamarh Brooks and Amir Jangoo to step up and deliver at number 3 and 4.

The all-rounders in the lower order add depth and strength to this batting lineup but what the defending champions need right now is a good start to their innings.

Partnerships at the top will allow for a better platform on which Reifier, Fabian Allen, and Imad Wasim can later build toward the end of the innings. 

Bowling all-rounder Kirk McKenzie opened the innings alongside Brandon King and looked in good touch as he went into attacking mode from the outset.

Barbados Royals Preview

Rovman Powell who led the Tallawahs to a title win in the last season is now the captain of Barbados Royals in L 2023. In his first game as the captain, Powell was out for a duck at number 5 while chasing 202 runs.

Though the squad features Laurie Evans and Rassie van der Dussen, they did not make it to the XI in the last game. Dussen is a talented T20 batter and will be an asset for any middle order in the world.

Justin Greaves and Kevin Wickham were underwhelming as number 3 and 4 batters. But the skipper might give them another chance and let them find their rhythm before making a change to the XI.

The lower order is strong with Powell, Jason Holder, and Donovan Ferreira coming in at 5, 6, and 7 respectively. All of them have plenty of experience and the ability to score quick runs.

Nyeem Young, the right-arm medium-fast bowler was the star of the Royals’ innings with 48 off 39 balls at number 8. However, he was quite expensive with the ball conceding 40 off his 4 Overs for no wickets.

Obed McCoy and Jason Holder will lead the pace attack while Qais Ahmed will be the key in the spin department.

However, the spinners have enjoyed quite a bit of success in the first two matches and it promises to be an even contest between bat and the ball. There will be a thundershower on the match day in Gros Islet with a high of 29 degrees Celsius.

Both of the first two matches played at this venue went in favor of the team batting first. Though there was enough for batters in the second innings as well it looks like the bowlers would be dominating on this ground if they hit the deck hard. A 185-200 score can put the team batting first in a strong position and there is enough potential in both teams to reach this milestone batting first.
