MI kicked off their ILT20 campaign with a defeat against the Dubai Capitals, but they did well to recover quickly from the setback, winning three games in a row. The ADKR’s campaign, however, took off with a dominating performance against the Vipers, but quickly lost steam as they went down to MI Emirates and Dubai Capitals in successive matches. With 1 win in 3 matches, they now find themselves meandering in the bottom of the table.
They’re par with the third-placed Giants on the number of wins, but two crushing defeats back to back have done their NRR (-2.33) some serious damage though. A convincing win against the MIE is what the AKDR need now to bring their campaign back into winning ways and to restore their battered NRR. But MIE won’t let that happen easily though.
They will set their sight on extending their winning rally and look to consolidate their table-topping position and steer well clear of the teams in pursuit.

Captain Nicholas Pooran is leading from the front with the bat. After a scratchy 21 against the Capitals to kickstart his tournament, he has scored 51, 37 and 39 from 3 digs, scoring more sixes than fours in each innings.
Openers Muhammad Waseem and Kusal Perera have got the team off to a quick start in most matches, allowing the calypso batsman to come in and get stuck into the opposition. Andre Fletcher, another T20 veteran from the Caribbean, is batting sensibly forming key partnerships in the middle for the Capitals.
On the bowling front, the Emirates bowlers have been literally on fire this season. With 9 scalps from 4 matches, Kiwi Trent Boult has bowled remarkably well with the new ball and kept things tight at the end whenever he’s thrown the ball. Fazalhaq Farooqi has been equally impressive, pairing up with Boult to make life difficult with the new ball for the opposition openers.
Akeal Hosein, the left arm spinner from Caribbean, has been fantastic so far with 6 wickets in the last three matches. He has clearly turned the table after his poor start against DC, where he went wicketless and gave away nearly 40 runs from 4 overs.

Andries Gous’ blitzkrieg 95 from 50 balls against the Vipers in their opener won the game for his team almost singlehandedly, but he hasn’t contributed much in the two matches that followed. Young UAE batter Alishan Sharafu’s lean form with the bat continues, and it’s not helping matters for the Knight Riders. However, Sam Hain and Laurie Evans are back amongst the runs after putting up a huge 130-run partnership against the Capitals in 13 overs.
Andre Russell waged a lone battle against the MI Emirates in their first fixture, as he saw his teammates throw their wickets away, succumbing to pressure. But the Knight Riders could do with some more runs from the big Jamaican down the order. The Knight Riders bowling lacks bite and does look a little toothless at times. David Willey and Josh Little hardly troubled the batsmen with the ball early on, and Pakistani spinner Imad Wasim hasn’t been able to produce breakthroughs or squeeze the opposition batsmen to pile on the pressure.
The Knight Riders skipper Sunil Narine looks by far the best of them all, with two highly economical bowling performance against the Vipers. Of note is his effort against the Capitals where gave away less than 6 runs per over but didn’t get any from the other end to tie down the opposition.

The pitch here generally becomes better for batting as the tournament progresses, so a nice batting strip could be on offer for both teams tomorrow. MI Emirates have shown us what they could do on such tracks, so it’d be interesting to see how Abu Dhabi go about constructing a total after making a hash of it in the last encounter. The forecast suggests that the weather will play nicely, so we should be in for a complete game of cricket with no interruption.

High TurnThis match will be played at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. A few days ago, MI Emirates blew the home team away with some excellent bowling and chased down the score in no time. That was their third win over the Knight Riders in this venue.
MI Emirates have successfully defended two totals after letting the Capitals chase down the total. In their only chasing effort this season, they put the Knight Riders in to bat first after winning toss in the Abu Dhabi game, and made short work of the chase. They may choose to field first if the coin toss goes their way.
MI Emirates have ticked off a lot of boxes with the squad, with the matchups and with dominant performance on field. They’re on a roll and are going to be a little too hot to handle for team Abu Dhabi in this contest.
We are backing MI Emirates to win this match.
