Melbourne Stars Women are hoping for a sizeable jump in the league table when they go up against their rivals Melbourne Renegades Women in a crucial game. This T20 Spring challenge match will take place at the Cricket Central in Sydney. Both sets of squads have a decent set of players who can make a difference on the day. So far, Melbourne Renegades Women have been unable to get the players on form. They have suffered back-to-back losses including the latest 17-run defeat at the hands of Adelaide Strikers Women. Meanwhile, Melbourne Stars Women are on the back of consecutive wins.

Melbourne Stars have managed big victories in consecutive matches. This comes as a major relief after the team started the campaign with a defeat against ACT Women. The successes have lifted Melbourne Stars to 3rd in the standings. This is quite a comfortable position with the team just two points away from the top and they are looking to seal a place in the knockout stages.
Meg Lanning came close to a century in the last match against Sydney Sixers Women but she remains one of the top players in the squad. Lanning has been able to manage 119 runs from her three matches at an average of 59.5. Sophie Reid would be the next top batter in the squad with 83 runs from the three matches.
Hasrat Gill and Sophie Day will be looking to hit a sweet spot with the ball after failing to have much of an impact against the Sydney Sixers. Both players ended up getting no wickets and it was up to the batters to bring about the magic in of victories.
Meg Lanning, Rhys McKenna, Sophie Reid, Olivia Henry, Tess Flintoff, Hasrat Gill, Sasha Moloney (c), Mia Perrin, Zoe Samuel, Indigo Noble, Sophie Day
Courtney Webb, Emma De Broughe, Naomi Stalenberg, Samara Dulvin, Bronte Leishman, Ella Hayward, Nicole Faltum, Georgia Prestwidge, Poppy Gardner, Sara Kennedy, Sarah Coyte
Melbourne Renegades are in a very poor spot despite opening the campaign with a victory over the Hurricanes. The five-wicket victory might have given them a winning start to the season, but they have been unable to build on the same. The narrow losses against Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers have put the team in a very difficult spot on the table.
Even as the team put up a mediocre performance in the last two games, there were big positives for Melbourne Renegades through Courtney Webb and Emma de Broughe. The former has managed 110 runs from three innings at an average of 36 while the latter has 90 runs from the three innings. The Renegades will be looking to both these players to shore up the middle order.
The bowling lineup has looked better thanks to Georgia Prestwidge and her exploits. She has five wickets from her three matches. Sarah Coyte may not have picked up any wickets in the loss to Adelaide, but she did manage three against Perth.
Nicole Faltum, Naomi Stalenberg, Georgia Prestwidge, Courtney Webb, Emma de Broughe, Sarah Coyte (c), Ella Hayward, Milly Illingworth, Sara Kennedy, Tia Davidge, Bronte Leishman
Meg Lanning, Olivia Henry, Sophie Reid, Mia Perrin, Rhys McKenna, Tess Flintoff, Hasrat Gill, Sasha Moloney, Sophie Day, Maisy Gibson, Indigo Noble
The pitch has been mediocre in of providing for batters or bowlers. The average first-innings score on this pitch over the last two games stands at 152 while the average second innings score on this ground stands at 124. The weather in Sydney is expected to be mostly sunny for the game with maximum temperature is around 23°C.
Cricket Central will be the venue for all three matches in the knockout stages. For the group stages, however, the venue has only hosted two matches with no decisive result pattern in both games. However, there have been scores of less than 130 in three of the four innings on this ground.
The last two matches at the Cricket Central in Sydney have witnessed the toss winner opting for batting first and bowling first apiece. Surprisingly, both decisions have gone wrong with the opposition claiming a victory. There is very little to read from the toss results, but the strength of Melbourne Stars in the batting line-up could base a decision.
The Melbourne Renegades are coming into the game on the back of consecutive losses while the Stars have the upper hand in of momentum and confidence. Melbourne Stars Women are looking to secure a place in the knockout stages and this will act as a big motivation.
Our prediction is for Melbourne Stars Women to win
