The last time these two teams met Namibia won the match by 24 runs in the 1st semi-final of the African Games 2023-24. Namibia fielded a second XI that did not feature most of their players from the current squad.

And yet they pushed Uganda on the backfoot. Simon Ssezai, Dinesh Nakrani, and Robinson Obuya are some of the key players in the batting department for Uganda.

These three play a key role at different positions in the batting order and will have all the eyes on them. The likes of Ruben Trumplemann, Jan Frylinck, and Bernard Scholtz will pose a tough challenge to Uganda’s batters.

Namibia’s bowling has improved a great deal in recent years and they were quite impressive at the T20 World Cup in the UAE as well.

Namibia Preview

Namibia will be taking on Uganda in the first warm-up match before they go on to face Australia. They have a great record against Uganda and we expect them to continue their dominance.

Though there are some experienced and talented all-rounders in the opposition, Namibia should be able to gain the upper hand in the contest. The bowlers are very strong and they’ve got plenty of all-rounders too.

They should be able to trouble Uganda’s batters. David Wiese will be a key player to watch out for. He’s got plenty of experience playing franchise cricket around the world and is crucial lower down the order.

Gerhard Erasmus is another key player at number 4. Erasmus and Wiese will be responsible for a big finish at 4 and 5 respectively. Whereas, in the top-order, wicket-keeper batter JP Kotze and Malan Kruger are the big-hitting players to watch out for.

Overall, it is a balanced squad with some big-hitting players at every position of the lineup and a threatening bowling attack. The warm-up games are a good opportunity for Namibia to test their strengths and shape their XI accordingly.

Namibia Predicted Playing XI:

JP Kotze, Malan Kruger, Jan Frylinck, Gerhard Erasmus (c), David Wiese, Zane Green (wk), Ruben Trumplemann, Bernard Scholtz, JJ Smit, Ben Shikongo, Tangeni Lungameni

Namibia Actual Playing XI:

Malan Kruger, Michael Van Lingen, Nikolaas Davin, David Wiese, Gerhard Erasmus, Jan Frylinck, Jean-Pierre Kotze, Zane Green, Ben Shikongo, Bernard Scholtz, Dylan Leicher, Jack Brassell, Peter Daniel Blignaut, Ruben Trumpelmann, Tangeni Lungameni, Jonathan Smit

Uganda Preview

Uganda will be eager to turn things around against Namibia. They’ve always struggled against this particular opposition. And though they’ve won most of their recent matches, they did lose to Namibia recently.

Now this is a practice match and not much is at stake here. As such we can’t expect the best from either team as they are more likely to let loose and play more freely to find their rhythm before the T20 World Cup begins.

Nevertheless, there are some promising players in this side, especially in the batting department, who will be crucial in this contest. Roger Musaka and Simon Ssezai are crucial for a good start.

Among these openers, Ssezai is one of the most reliable and also the top run-scorer for Uganada in T20I cricket. He is also the first batter in Uganda to score a hundred in T20Is.

Robinson Obuya at number 3 is quite new to T20I cricket but has shown great promise with his strike rate. It is a good strategy to have someone like him at number 3 followed by other more experienced batters lower down the order like Dinesh Nakrani and Alpesh Ramjani.

There is plenty of firepower in this batting lineup and with Nakrani in the finisher’s role, Uganda can push for a bigger and more competitive score against Namibia this time around.

It is, nevertheless, very challenging to do so, given the bowling might of Namibia. All-rounder Ramjani is also crucial with the ball along with others like Juma Miyagi and Henry Ssenyondo.

These bowlers were quite impressive against Namibia in the semi-final of the African Games. They should be Uganda’s best hope of gaining the upper hand in this match.

Uganda Predicted Playing XI:

Roger Mukasa, Simon Ssezai, Dinesh Nakrani, Kenneth Waiswa, Robinson Obuya, Alpesh Ramjani, Brian Masaba (c), Henry Ssenyondo, Cosmos Kyewuta, Fred Achelam (wk), Juma Miyagi

Uganda Actual Playing XI:

Robinson Obuya, Ronak Patel, Simon Ssesazi, Alpesh Ramjani, Dinesh Nakrani, Juma Miyagi, Kenneth Waiswa, Riazat Ali Shah, Fred Achelam, Roger Mukasa, Bilal Hassan, Brian Masaba, Cosmas Kyewuta, Frank Nsubuga, Henry Ssenyondo

Weather Conditions

It is a balanced pitch that offers help to both batters and bowlers. There may be some help for the batters given it’s a new pitch and there can be some fireworks in the powerplay. The weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 33 degrees Celsius in Tarouba on the match day.

NAM vs UGA Pitch Report

Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad will be the venue for this match. The average 1st innings score here isn’t very high in T20Is and 160-165 seems like a good enough score. But on the day of the match, if the pitch is more leaning towards batting, we reckon the team batting first should push for something over 170 runs.

Toss: To Bowl

While there has been no clear advantage in favor of teams either batting or bowling first, we reckon batting first should be the preferred option. Though there have been a few high scores on this ground, the highest total successfully chased is 156 runs. Anything around 160-165 will be competitive on this ground and the team batting first should be able to defend it.

Namibia has the upper hand in this game. They’ve always dominated Uganda historically and even now have a stronger overall squad. Uganda have some promising players, especially in the bowling department, but they may not be able to face the bowling challenge of Namibia. As a result, Namibia will start as favorites in our match prediction.
