Hosts Namibia will take on the United States in the third match of the ongoing Namibia T20I Tri-Series, which also involves U.A.E. The match is slated to take place tomorrow at the Wanderers Cricket Ground in Windhoek. Namibia lost their first match to the U.A.E. and will hence be eager for a win here. Meanwhile, USA are coming off a thrilling 15-run win against U.A.E., which has taken them to first place in the table. Only Namibia are yet to open their now.
In the first ODI of the series, Namibia’s bowlers were taken apart by U.A.E., who smashed them for 245 runs after batting first. In reply, Namibia posted 205-8, courtesy of a fluent fifty by opener JP Kotze (55 off 32 balls) and fluent 30s by Gerhard Erasmus and JJ Smit.
These three players form the backbone of Namibia’s batting unit, and we expect solid contributions from them in this game as well on a flat pitch.
Nicol Loftie-Eaton is definitely someone to keep on your radar. During the recently wrapped ODI series, he delivered remarkable performances, finishing with scores of 49 runs from 47 balls and 54 runs from 63 balls in his last two outings.
Among the bowlers, all-rounder JJ Smit is a reliable option, with an economy of just 6.65 in T20Is. Bernard Scholtz and Tangeni Lungameni have been in good form as well and should do well in this series.
Captain Erasmus turned his arm over in the previous game and ended up with figures of 3-26 from 3 overs. In these batting conditions, his couple of overs can be crucial.
JJ Smit, Malan Kruger, Dylan Leicher, JP Kotze (wk), Jan Frylinck, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Gerhard Erasmus (c), Jan de Villiers, Bernard Scholtz, Jack Brassell, Tangeni Lungameni
In their first match of the series, USA were well on course for a 200+ total against U.A.E, but ended up with 175-9 on the board. At one stage, they were 125-2 off 13.2 overs, but a flurry of wickets saw them posting a below-par total. Fortunately, their bowlers put up a spirited effort and restricted U.AE. to just 160-8.
Saiteja Mukkamalla’s performance would have given them plenty to cheer about. The opener was in his element, smashing 85 off just 54 balls.
Regular captain Monank Patel didn’t play the first match, and there is no word yet on his availability for the next game. In his absence, the batting unit does look a little thin. The likes of Nitish Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, and Smit Patel will have to play their best to put up a fighting total.
Among the bowlers, Nosthush Kenjige and Harmeet Singh are reliable wicket-takers and can also maintain a decent economy rate.
Juanoy Drysdale and Ayan Desai were expensive in their first spells in the previous T20I, but Ayan made an impressive comeback later. Leg-spinner Abhishek Paradkar was a surprise package, taking 3-24 off his 4 overs. He can be used as a secret weapon in this series.
Smit Patel, Monank Patel/Andries Gous (wk), Saiteja Mukkamalla, Nitish Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Harmeet Singh, Jasdeep Singh (c), Nosthush Kenjige, Abhishek Paradkar, Ayan Desai, Juanoy Drysdale
From the first two games in this series, it’s clear that the Wanderers Cricket Ground provides an excellent batting surface that holds its consistency. The ball arrives at a comfortable height and speed, enabling batters to strike confidently. Batters will aim to take advantage of the scoring opportunities in the initial 6-8 overs, but favorable batting conditions will last throughout the match. Spinners can expect some in the middle overs when the picth starts to slow down a little.
Windhoek's weather will be bright and sunny during the match, with no rain expected.
This venue is perfect for batting! In the opening match, U.A.E. went all out, racking up an impressive 245 for just 2 wickets against Namibia. In the second game, USA put on 175-9 on the board and won the game by 15 runs. The team batting first here will be aiming to post a target of around 200 runs.
Both matches played at the venue in this series have been won by the team batting first. This trend will prompt both captains to bat first in this game.
In their three T20I encounters, Namibia have not lost to the USA yet. They will be confident of extending their dominance against USA as they have the home advantage. They might have lost the first match of the series, but they still have a pretty solid squad. USA’s batting is fine, but it’s their bowlers who showed that despite the lack of experience, they can make use of these conditions. It will be a tight contest, but USA are on a hot winning streak at the moment and have won five matches in a row. Their winning momentum and their bowling attack give them an edge.
Back USA to emerge victorious against Namibia.
