Bangla Tigers beat Northern Warriors by 2 runs
The first weekend of the Abu Dhabi T10 league 2023 is here and after 3 exciting contests yesterday on Saturday, we shift our focus to the second fixture of a Super Sunday which sees Bangla Tigers taking on Northern Warriors.
Having dropped their recent matches, both the teams would be hoping to bounce back with a win so they can go deep into the tournament and give themselves a shot at playing the qualifiers.
We are backing Northern Warriors as the winners of this contest.

Bangla Tigers and Northern Warriors have met 5 times in the Abu Dhabi T10 league, with the Bangla Tiger holding a slight 3-2 advantage. Their most recent encounter was in the group stage game at last year’s tournament, in which Warriors comfortably chased down the target with 6 wickets remaining and 4 balls to spare.
A completely different outfit from last time, Northern Warriors started the tournament with a bang with two wins on the bounce, but endured two defeats in their next two matches. Bangla Tigers suffered a massive defeat by New York Strikers and quickly bounced back in their next game knocking off heavyweights Gladiators, but they ran into rampant Delhi Bulls who completely outplayed the Tigers with both bat and ball.
Both teams will be eyeing the two points to be had from this match because one loss could derail their plans for progressing through to the business end of the tournament.

Northern Warriors would be kicking themselves for floundering a genuine chance to win over The Chennai Braves and are in a bit of bother considering they’ve got to win a few matches in a row.
The Warriors will have big hopes for this match against a weaker opposition though. They'll want to make sure that they snatch the two points up for grabs here before facing off much stronger teams in Deccan Gladiators and Delhi Bulls.
Their bowling unit is anything but star-studded but they get the job done anyway, especially Abhimanyu Mithun, Angelo Matthews and Tabraiz Shamsi who’ve 19 wickets amongst them in four outings. They’ve found a way to get the better of the batsmen from the opposition and are using that to good effect. While the bowling unit looks capable of taking wickets, their batting unit has been a bit hit-or-miss in the last two matches.
They haven’t been able to push beyond the 110-run barrier despite having come agonisingly close two times now. Their batters take time to get their eye in and before they ready themselves to go all-out attacking the innings almost draws to a close. As a team, they leave a lot of runs on the table and it would help their cause if they could find a way to string some 20-run or 25-run overs together in the back end of the innings.

The Bangla Tigers, on paper, boasts one of the most attacking T10 batting line-ups in history, with the likes of Jordan Cox, Chris Lynn, David Miller, Kusal Mendis and Carlos Brathwaite. Dashun Shanaka and Daniel Sams are no muck with the bat either. They all can hit the long ball and crank out boundaries at will when they’re in the zone. But that’s the problem.
Sure their batting line up is fairly long, but they’ve been under fire for the most part and have not been able to tee off at will except when Jordan Cox went berserk against Deccan Gladiators and took them to a humongous total. Moreover, the bowling unit looks a little lost and has failed to take wickets in the matches allowing their opposition to run away with the game.
3 wickets is their best haul for a match so far, which shows they haven’t been able to test the middle order of their opponents and put pressure on them. They’re missing some seriously good players, but they’ve got to play with what they have at their disposal. And they’ve got to figure out the right mix of players that can go out there and win them matches.

This game is scheduled to kick off at 6:00PM local time at Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi, the same and only host of the famous Abu Dhabi T10 league.
Bangla Tigers might ask the Northern Warriors to have a bat if they win the toss. Having set totals so far, Bangla Tigers might be eager to see how their batting fares while chasing down a target. From a Warriors perspective, their chasing effort didn’t go in vain against Team Abu Dhabi, so they wouldn't mind batting second either.
Predicting the winner of this contest is hard given the teams are on a bit of an indifferent form now. Looking back at their 3-2 head-to-head record only makes things harder because there’s hardly anything to separate the teams there. But we reckon Northern Warriors have an edge over Bangla Tigers, just because their bowlers have always come to the party and kept them in the game more often than not.
We are backing Northern Warriors as the winners of this contest.
