Salem Spartans Preview

Salem Spartans took a winning start to TNPL 2025 by defeating Siechem Madurai Panthers by six wickets. A target of 165 can be tricky at the SNR College Cricket Ground, but the Spartans fought hard and eventually overhauled it in 18.4 overs. Nidhish Rajagopal (60 off 41) and R Kavin (48* off 39) were the stars of the chase and will continue to be the backbone of this batting unit.

Rajendran Vivek and all-rounder S Harish Kumar are two other key names in Salem’s batting unit. They were among the top run-getters last season and will be counted upon to deliver again. Harish is also handy with the ball.

Sunny Sandhu is another one worth keeping an eye on as he can strike some big blows down the order.

With the ball, the Spartans were on point in their first game. The addition of M. Mohammed in the team has made an immediate difference to their attack as the pacer turned on the heat with figures of 2-27 from four.

M Poiyamozhi, S Ajith Ram, and Rahil Shah make this bowling unit stronger as they can bowl economical spells and can also get some crucial wickets.

Trichy Grand Cholas Preview

Trichy Grand Cholas didn’t have the best of starts to their new season as they suffered a defeat in their first match to Nellai Royal Kings. Batting first, the Cholas managed only 157-8 on the board, and Nellai chased that target down in 19.2 overs with 5 wickets remaining. 

It was overall an underwhelming performance, but there were a few positives in both departments. 

With the bat, Waseem Ahmed (41 off 32) and Jafar Jamal (39 off 33) made strong contributions in the middle order, while R Rajkumar made a handy cameo of 30* off 16 to help finish the innings off on a strong note.

They have other dependable batters in Jayaraman Suresh Kumar, U Mukilesh, and Jagatheesan Kousik, who had a fine last season, and going ahead, the team will expect some impactful runs from them as well. 

In the bowling department, Mukilesh was the standout with a superb spell of 3-23 from his four overs. Sanjay Yadav and Ganesh Moorthi also chipped in with a wicket apiece, but other than that, the bowling attack looked rather unimpressive.
