The second week action of the Legends League Cricket 2024 promises many key encounters and our focus shifts to this exciting contest between the Southern Superstars and Gujarat Greats at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur.
These two teams don’t match up really well but having underachieved in the past two seasons both sides would be looking to make a statement and clinch a victory.
Gujarat Greats are coming off a comfortable win over Toyam Hyderabad, while Southern Superstars are yet to play a match in the competition.
A difficult season last year saw the Southern Superstars pick up only one win, so they will be hoping to get out there and prove their critics wrong, while the Gujarat Greats, having started really well, will look to continue playing a good brand of cricket and consolidate their position at the top of the table.

Southern Superstars have put together a decent squad that features a blend of accomplished international cricketers and experienced local players.
Dinesh Karthik will lead the team this season taking over from Aaron Finch. The former Indian wicket keeper is a complete package, with his keeping, batting and wealth of franchise cricket experience and tactical acumen.
The current squad includes the likes of former Kiwi opener Martin Guptill, Zimbabwean opener Hamilton Masakadza, all-rounders like Kedhar Jadhav, Jeevan Mendis, and Elton Chigumbura among others. Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal, Afghanistan speedster Hamid Hassan, Indian spinner Pawan Negi are also part of the bowling contingent. These experienced players will be key to the team's success.
Their bowling attack, while not as formidable as their opponents, has the potential to cause problems if they can bowl to their strengths and execute their plans well. Southern Superstars had to exit the competition at the end of the league stage last season, and they will be hoping that their new-look squad will help them secure a spot in the knockouts this time around.

Gujarat Greats crossed their first hurdle successfully, picking up a relatively easy victory over Toyam Hyderabad at the same venue.
Morne Van Wyk unleashed an all-out attack to bring up a ton, pummeling Hyderabad bowlers to submission. It looked like he had some unfinished business and he will be raring to have a go at the Southern Superstars bowlers as well. Shikhar Dhawan, Lendl Simmons are some of the big names going around in this format and they will be looking to make amends for their failure to cash in on their starts yesterday.
The bowling lineup has got good variety to test any batting attack, especially the spin duo of Seekuge Prasanna and Manan Sharma who applied the brakes on the opposition scoring with some brilliant display of spin bowling. They’ll be eager to demonstrate their skills on the same surface. Liam Plunkett, the wily old seamer from England, made his mark on the middle phase of the game getting through his overs quickly with an economical spell of bowling.
However, the team needs their new-ball bowlers Ishwar Pandey and Shannon Gabriel to step up and provide breakthroughs during the powerplay.

The pitch at Jodhpur is expected to offer a decent balance between bat and ball. Batsmen who can play themselves in and have a variety of shots can do well on this surface. The weather forecast suggests clear skies, which should provide ideal conditions for a game of cricket with no interruptions anticipated during the course of the match.
The match is being held at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium, Jodhpur. One of the new venues for this season, this venue has provided two close matches where the contest evens-stevens between the bat and ball.
Electing to bowl first isn’t a significant advantage per se at this venue, but chasing teams have generally fought well in the three games so far even though they have only one victory to show for it. Our guess is that the toss winning captain will ask the opposition to bat first with the hope that his bowlers will restrict them to a par total that his batters will have no trouble chasing down.
Gujarat Greats blew their opposition out of the water in the opening game, with some lovely team-effort with the ball and individual brilliance from keeper batsmen Morne van Wyk. They’re in great form and will be a difficult challenge to overcome for any team if they play with same intent.
Our prediction is for Gujarat Greats to win this match.
