The Vitality T20 Blast resumes after a month and half, with top 4 teams from the North group and the South group ready to rumble.
Our focus shifts to the first of the four quarter finals at the Kia Oval in Kennington, London, where Surrey take on Durham for a spot in the semi-finals. Surrey, who finished the group stages as table toppers, will be switched on. Having dropped just three games on their way to the quarterfinals, they’ll be raring to go.
Surrey know they cannot get complacent at the business end of the tournament but they'll fancy their chances against Durham, who finished fourth in their group.
They pulled off a crucial win in their final encounter of the group stages to qualify, while, luckily for them, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire all faltered at the last hurdle allowing the Northern county to sneak through as the fourth qualifier with 14 points.

Surrey, given their incredible run this season, are red-hot favourites to make it through to the semis. They look like a well-knit unit, having pulled through setbacks and dominated the opposition in most of their matches especially in their own backyard.
Jamie Smith is expected to return for Surrey after being away on national duty. He was in great touch before he left, and so have been Will Jacks and Sam Curran. Even Laurie Evans and Dom Sibley have been amongst the runs.
The top order has got them decent starts on most occasions, but whenever the start has been a bit shaky the middle order has stepped up to the plate and took them through to a strong position. And the lower order has made a useful contribution to the team's cause upping the ante in the last few overs, especially with the Curran brothers providing the much-needed impetus at the death.
On the bowling front, they have had some really good names in the squad, such as Sean Abbott, Tom Curran, Gus Atkinson, Spencer Johnson, and Reece Topley. Their fast bowlers have bowled well in tandem and operate with good line and lengths, piling the pressure on the opposition. They don’t give away any looseners or free sighters and pu the batsman under the pump straightaway.
Throughout the competition so far, Surrey have been putting in clinical performances one after another. And having come so close to lifting their maiden title, they’ll make sure that they continue playing good competitive cricket.
Surrey, averaging 12 fours at Kennington Oval this season, faces Durham, who conceded 9.4 fours in their last five T20 Blast games. Given the difficulty of scoring boundaries at Kennington Oval, we predict Surrey to hit under 13 fours in today's quarterfinal clash.
Sam Curran has scored 185 runs (24, 102, 0, 59) in his last four innings in the T20 Blast. He had a phenomenal hundred tournament, where he guided the Oval Invincibles to their second title, smashing 201 runs at an average of 40.20. The last time Curran played at Kennington Oval, he smashed an unbeaten 102-run knock. Given his recent form and the importance of the match, we back Sam Curran to come good with the bat.

Durham lost both its opening two bouts but quickly bounced back to win two in a row. Just when Durham started to look a bit settled, another loss ensued. The following match was rained out, leaving Durham to quickly rack up a few wins with the threat of elimination looming large. But a hat trick of victories against Lancashire, Yorkshire and Worcestershire back home gave Durham a fresh lease of life and they jumped back into contention.
But back to back sub-par displays with the bat meant Durham bowlers had nothing to fight with, and they conceded a big defeat to Northamptonshire and Yorkshire away from home.
In the batting department, up-and-coming Protean test star David Bedingham has made his mark in the shortest format of the game, chalking up 225 runs from 7 games. His runs have come at a brilliant strike rate of 163. Graham Clark may have more runs in his kitty, but they haven’t come at a faster clip.
Captain Alex Lees, Colin Ackermann and Ashton Turner have done a great job keeping the run rate up through the middle overs. With the ball, though, Ben Raine, Nathan Sowter, amnd Callum Parkinson have chipped in, picking up close to 60 wickets between themselves this season.
David Bedingham has scores of 15, 21, 78, 5, 63, and 43 in his last five innings. He has scored 225 runs in six innings and averages 37.50 this season. He is one of the most consistent run-scorers for Durham. Considering his recent form, we back Bedingham to make an impact with the bat at the top of the order.

The wicket has not been as placid as we know it to be, but still that hasn’t deterred the batsmen from going out there and having fun. Both batsmen and bowlers have found success in equal measure in these wickets at the Oval this season, and we might see another good contest between the bat and ball in the quarterfinals where anything more than 165 should be competitive. The forecast suggests that we might see showery weather in the morning, and that there may be some significant cloud cover throughout.

The Kennington Oval in London will play host to the key encounter. Surrey have made it into a fort, winning 5 and tying 1 game so far. They’ve yet to drop a match at this venue this season and will be looking to keep that record intact.
7 out of 8 captains that won toss here so far decided to have a bowl first, and it’s a fair indication of what the captain winning the toss is likely to do in this game. Captains are not wrong in thinking that it is a massive advantage to field first here, assess the conditions, and then come into bat later under lights with a clear plan to ace the chase.
Surrey have hardly put a foot wrong so far this season and it'll be really hard for Durham to upstage Sussex if they don't play out of their skins and Surrey play their natural game. Surrey to win.
