The league stage of the 2024 Vitality Blast is all set to conclude this weekend. The quarter-finals will then begin from September 3 onwards. Tonight, a North Group clash will take place between Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire in Headingley. Yorkshire are currently in 6th place with 13 points and can still make it to the top four if they win this match and a few other results go their way. Nottinghamshire, unfortunately, are out of contention and are at the bottom of the table with just 6 points. They will be looking to end the tournament on a high note.

After a topsy-turvy season, Yorkshire finally seem to be getting some momentum with them. They have two of their last three completed matches and now have six wins and six losses from 13 matches, with one abandoned game.
Dawid Malan has done most of the heavy lifting for them in the batting department, scoring 420 runs in 12 innings at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 135. He is fresh off an unbeaten 93 off 50 balls against Worcestershire in Worcester, which helped Yorkshire chase down a target of 206 with three balls remaining.
Adam Lyth has been their next best batter, with 294 runs in 11 innings at 29.4 and a strike rate of 127.
Among the bowlers, Jordan Thompson has been sensational, taking 17 wickets at an economy of 8.98. He is also more than handy with the bat, as he showed in the game against Worcestershire, where he smashed 40 off 14 balls towards the end to help finish off the game.
Jafer Chohan is next on the list with 16 wickets in 9 innings at an economy of 7.23.

Nottinghamshire just haven’t clicked as a unit this season. After 13 games, they find themselves right at the bottom of the table with only two wins along with nine losses. It has been a terrible performance from them and their only hope is to finish off with a solid win and come back better next year.
Nottinghamshire’s batting unit has almost completely revolved around captain Joe Clarke, who has scored 304 runs this season at an average of 25 and a strike rate of 154.
None of the other batters have stepped up, with only Jack Haynes (179 runs in 12 innings) and Matthew Montgomery (156 runs in 11 innings) providing decent contributions.
In the bowling department, Olly Stone (14 wickets in 12 innings at an economy of 9.35) has been a regular contributor.
Left-arm spinner Liam Patterson-White has been doing a fine job and has gone at an economy of just 6.73. We are backing him to deliver in this match.
Philip Salt (wk), Luke Wells, Liam Livingstone, Keaton Jennings (c), Matthew Hurst, George Dockrell, Steven Croft, Chris Green, Tom Hartley, Luke Wood, Saqib Mahmood

The Headingley pitch is generally regarded as a batting-friendly surface. It offers batters ample opportunity to score runs due to its flat nature throughout much of the match. However, the pitch does provide some assistance to fast bowlers, particularly with the new ball, where bounce and swing can be exploited. Spin bowlers, on the other hand, will find conditions challenging and will need to rely on precise line and length to contain the batting.
The weather in Leeds will be warm and pleasant. There is no rain predicted, and we should hence get a full game.

The average score batting first at Headingley is 180. The highest total posted here is Yorkshire’s mammoth 260-4 against Northamptonshire in 2017. They won that game by 124 runs. The highest total scored at Headingley this season is Birmingham Bears’ 214-7 versus Yorkshire.
Headingley is usually great for the team batting first. Three of the last four games played here in the 2024 Vitality Blast have been won by the teams batting first too. Thus, we feel that both teams will be looking to bat first here.
Yorkshire are still in contention and will be taking this match very seriously. We expect them to come out hard and a thumping win to improve their chances of making it to the top four. Nottinghamshire’s season is already over and they seem to be going through the motions. They have looked listless in the last few matches, and unless someone delivers a special performance here, we don’t see them putting up much of a fight. We reckon Yorkshire will win this one.
