Can India Women Return To Winning Ways At The First Opportunity

It was December at the world famous and historic W.A.C.A when India Women were last beaten in a WODI fixture before Sunday's defeat against Sri Lanka Women as part of the Tri-Nation Series.
One match does not define a team and Amol Muzumdar will be confident of his side getting back on the winning trail when they take on South Africa Women on Wednesday.
Below, we look at India Women's winning run, as well as the reasons behind their defeat on Sunday, while looking forward to what is to come in this format over the exciting months.
The Winning Run
In women's cricket, the record number of WODI victories is Australia Women who triumphed in 26 successive games from 12th March 2018 to 24th September 2021.
India Women impressed from 22nd December onwards last year and picked up eight wins on the bounce, not even a third of Australia Women's record, but many were by large margins!

Defeat to Sri Lanka Women
India Women don't lose very often to Sri Lanka Women, indeed, Sunday's defeat was only the third time that they were beaten by the opposition in WODIs.
Funnily enough, it was not an awful display from India Women - all of the top five made scores between 18 and 37 with keeper-batter Richa Ghosh hitting a half-century in the team's competitive 275/9.
Frankly, India Women will be looking to the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues to step up in Wednesday's game versus South Africa and make significant contributions.
Sneh Rana impressed with 3/45 in the second innings of the game but maybe India Women need to hold their hands up and it that Sri Lanka Women put in a brilliant batting display and give them credit!
Just Under Five Months Before a Home World Cup
Now is the time to get defeats against the likes of Sri Lanka Women out of the way and Harmanpreet Kaur will already be dreaming of lifting the Women's World Cup in Mullanpur during late October!
That is by no means a formality, indeed India Women have never won or reached the final of any of the previous 11 World Cups in this format but are currently the favourites to win the competition and can be backed at 11/4 with various bookmakers.
