So far it has been a tournament with plenty of no-results but with a clear forecast for Friday in Christchurch, both sides will be looking forward to a complete and competitive fixture at Hagley Oval!
Otago Volts continue to lead the charge at the top of the table but even they have only won two of their four matches with one defeat and one no-result. They are also the team who have played the most games so overall it means that there are plenty of sides in the chasing pack.
Auckland Aces are one of the teams primed to pounce if and when Otago slip up and they have been particularly unfortunate with the weather so far. For Canterbury Kings however, they have looked like a side without confidence and are in danger of seeing this year's tournament slip away without ever getting going.

The fine bowling attack which includes Kyle Jamieson and Ish Sodhi was supposed to fire Canterbury Kings up the table and to Super Smash glory this season but so far that has not been the case! Spinner Sodhi took 2/24 from his three overs in the last game but Jamieson went wicketless from his four overs and Canterbury desperately need them both to perform together to help get their campaign moving.
With the bat, confidence is low, particularly after their last game when five of the top seven made single figure scores and captain Cole McConchie's contribution wasn't anything to write home about with 16 runs from 20 balls! Matthew Boyle was the exception to the rule though, hitting an impressive 81 not out from 51 balls, an innings which deserved to win the game.
All things considered, the Kings have been poor this season and their home fans will be demanding better in this fixture.
Canterbury Kings smashed 4, 8 & 7 sixes in the three matches they played in the season, but at Christchurch six hitting has been difficult where the Kings in their last four super smash games average 4.75 sixes per game. We predict the Kings total six tally to be under 5.5 in this fixture.
Boyle has scores of 81, 37, and 18 runs in the three matches he has played this season. Overall this season, Boyle has been striking at 160, has amassed 138 runs, and is averaging 68.00.

Whilst Canterbury Kings continue to struggle with both bat and ball, Auckland Aces went from strength to strength in their last game, producing an exceptional team performance whilst beating the Kings by 13 runs in Auckland.
Key to it was the old boy at the top of the order, the tall and powerful Martin Guptill. Long forgotten at international level, the right-hander showed he is still a master of his trade at this level, smashing 60 runs from 35 balls and he will be looking forward to taking on the Kings' bowling attack again in this game. As will Bevon Jacobs who struck 53 runs from 33 balls!
With the ball, Danru Ferns (3/35) and Jock McKenzie (3/31) stood out although Adithya Ashok (2/35) was also troublesome for Canterbury's batters and the bowling attack will be full of confidence ahead of this clash.
The Aces have a power-packed batting lineup where their top four consistently average 1.5 to 2 sixes per match. In the last game against the Kings, Auckland smashed 13 sixes. In the previous match against the Kings at Christchurch, Auckland smashed 7 sixes. Given the vulnerability of Canterbury's bowling attack, we predict the Auckland Aces six tally to be over 5.5.
Martin Guptill has been in fine form this season where he has notched up scores of 60 & 31 runs in the two matches played. In the earlier fixture against Canterbury, Guptill scored a match winning half century (60 runs in 35 balls). We back Guptill to continue his good run of form against the Kings and play another match winning knock for the Aces.

It will be humid throughout this game on Friday afternoon and evening but the temperature will struggle to go beyond 17 degrees. No rain is expected but there will be some cloud cover at times.
There is always some turn for the spinners at Hagley Oval and we also expect a tinge of green grass for the pacers to exploit. However, with good carry and consistent bounce, a par score should still be over 180.
Canterbury Kings won two of the three coin tosses this season, while the Auckland Aces are 0-2 in coin tosses this season. For this match, we back the luck to be in favour of the home team (Canterbury Kings) and win the coin toss.
The only previous game this season at Hagley Oval was won by the team fielding first and we would be very surprised if both captains did not go out for the toss looking to bowl first once more.
Although Auckland Aces have only completed one game in this campaign, they did win it and it was against Canterbury Kings! That defeat for the Kings was sandwiched in between two other losses to Otago Sparks and we expect them to chalk up another loss in this fixture.
We are backing Auckland Aces to win this match!
