Rain has affected many games in the Lanka T10 Super League. On the previous day of the league, all the 3 matches were abandoned due to rain. Colombo Jaguars have suffered the most due to bad weather conditions in this tournament.

3 of their 6 matches were abandoned while one ended without a result. Jaffna Titans have qualified for the playoffs while Jaguars must win this game to stay in the race for the 4th spot in the points table.

The last time the Jaguars and Titans were head to head, Charith Asalanka’s fifty propelled Jaffna Titans to 138 runs while batting first. Colombo’s top-order batters failed to get going in the run chase and they eventually fell 40 runs short.

Asalanka is still in fine touch and was recently part of a high-scoring innings where the Titans crossed the 150-run mark. Colombo Jaguars, on the other hand, played their first game since that loss and suffered another big defeat.

Colombo Jaguars Preview

The Colombo Jaguars haven’t had a lot of game time in this tournament with many of their games being washed out. Their opening game of the season in which the Jaguars opted to bowl first was washed out after the first 6 overs of the match.

It is a star-studded batting lineup that features some of the most experienced T20 players who’ve played all around the world. Jason Roy and Dan Lawrence are a great opening duo.

Both are known for their big-hitting and will be expected to get the Jaguars off to a flying start. While Lawrence has managed to get a few good starts, Roy was out for 0 and 2 in his last two innings.

Najibullah Zadran is another promising batsman from Afghanistan at number 4. Asif Ali was a designated match-finisher for his PSL franchise in his heyday. However, he hasn’t played a lot recently and isn’t in great form. Nevertheless, it is a T10 league and even a couple of overs are enough to change the course of the game in this format.

A few big sixes from Asif Ali and Zadran can deliver a great finish for the side. They’ve also got skipper Angelo Matthews in the lower middle order. Another player known for his finishing skills, the skipper has been rather disappointing so far.

Batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis is a key player in this side to watch out for. He is handy with the ball. He can deliver crucial breakthroughs and comes in at number 3 in the lineup.

Colombo Jaguars Predicted Playing XI:

Jason Roy, Kamindu Mendis, Daniel Lawrence, Angelo Mathews (c), Najibullah Zadran, Asif Ali, Sadeera Samarawickrama (wk), Ramesh Mendis, Garuka Sanketh, Isitha Wijesundera, Matheesha Pathirana

Colombo Jaguars Actual Playing XI:

Akila Dananjaya, Najibullah Zadran, Ramesh Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Asitha Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Angelo Perera, Ali Khan, Garuka Sanketh, Asif Ali, Dan Lawrence, Jason Roy

Jaffna Titans Preview

Jaffna Titans will pose a tough challenge to the struggling Colombo Jaguars. Titans have an in-form batting lineup with their middle-order players delivering consistently.

Charith Asalanka is in tremendous form at number 3 while batting all-rounder Tom Abell also found his rhythm in the middle order. David Wiese will be a happy skipper seeing the number of options in the batting lineup.

The Titans aren’t dependent on Asalanka and have others like Tom Kohler-Core and Kusal Mendis who’ve shown promise at the top. Mendis has been in fine touch in T20Is while Kohler-Core has enjoyed a great domestic season recently.

Wiese and Dwaine Pretorius are handy all-rounders lower down the order to deliver a big finish for the Jaffna Titans. In the bowling department, Nuwan Thushara is leading from the front.

He’s been consistent with wickets while Pramod Madushan and Dunith Wellalage have also ed the party recently with some brilliant spells. There is great variety in the bowling attack as well.

The current form of the Titans with both bat and ball makes them a formidable side in this T10 league.

Jaffna Titans Predicted Playing XI:

Tom Kohler-Core, Kusal Mendis (wk), Charith Asalanka, Tom Abell, David Wiese (c), Dwaine Pretorius, Pavan Rathnayake, Pramod Madushan, Dunith Wellalage, Nuwan Thushara, Treveen Mathew

Jaffna Titans Actual Playing XI:

David Wiese, Kusal Mendis, Kevin Omar Wickham, George Garton, Traveen Mathews, Dunith Wellalage, Pavan Rathnayake, Dwaine Pretorius, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Lahiru Kumara

It is a balanced wicket here at the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium and both batters and bowlers have enjoyed success on this ground. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 T10 matches is 99 runs. However, for a match-winning total, the team batting first should aim for something over 110-120 runs.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first have won 3 of the last 5 matches played at this venue. Almost every team that wins the toss has looked to bowl first in this tournament. Since the Jaguars haven’t had a lot of game time, batting first won’t be an ideal choice.

The weather forecast isn’t great for the match day and we might not get even one of the 3 matches scheduled for the last day of the league stage. However, we must pick a winner between these two sides and that would be the Jaffna Titans. They’ve got a stronger overall squad with in-form players in every department while Colombo has struggled in the two games they played so far.
