IPL 2025 - Playoff Qualification Scenario

The 18th season of the IPL 2025, the competition in a weak, but the new schedule has not been announced yet.

IPL 2025 has been a roller coaster ride for all the teams and for the participating players. The point table talks volumes for the performance of all the teams, and as we wait for the league to begin again, things will get heated up again.

Qualification Scenario for IPL 2025

1) Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans are the table toppers right now. They have won 8 matches and have only lost 3 games. The Titans also stand at the top with a net run rate of 0.793. They have already achieved 16 points and now they are just one match away from a confirmed spot in the playoffs. With a strong batting and bowling attack in the team, there are no big hurdles for the Titans. Gujarat Titans are left to play 3 matches, and they will face Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, and Chennai Super Kings in their remaining league stage fixtures. Winning a single game won’t be a big issue for the Titans, and we will see the Gujarat Titans in the playoffs.

2) Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore have played exceptionally well in the league this year. They have a strong bowling attack and equally dominating batting attack, with India’s Virat Kohli performing consistently. Like Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore also have 16 points with 8 wins and 3 losses. Their net run rate stands at 0.482. Royal Challengers Bangalore only needs a single win at the league stage, and they are expected to get a confirmed spot in the playoffs. Once the IPL resumes, Bangalore will play against Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kolkata Knight Riders. Considering their current performance, they won’t find any issues in making it to the playoffs.

3) Punjab Kings

Before the start of IPL 2025, the legal betting apps in India didn’t have positive odds for the Punjab Kings. However, as the league began, Punjab Kings came out as the strong team that dominated every game. Punjab Kings are a combination of the right players who are known to be experts in the T20 format of cricket. However, things started changing in the league as we entered the 3rd week. Mumbai Indians were on a winning streak of 6 matches before they witnessed a loss against Gujarat Titans in the previous game. Currently, they stand at the 4th spot in the point table with 7 wins and 5 losses and a net run rate of +1.156. Mumbai Indians are now left with 2 matches at the league stage, and to make sure they qualify for the playoffs, Mumbai need to win both games. Their remaining two games are against the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.

5) Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals started on a positive note in the league this year, but soon their dominating performance went off track. They have been inconsistent performers in the league, and the team has failed to maintain their winning rhythm. Delhi Capitals have an average batting attack, and the whole team is dependent on a single batter to score runs. Their bowling attack is a strong aspect, but one can’t be dependent on a single vertical to win matches. Delhi Capitals currently stand at the 5th spot in the point table with 6 wins and 4 losses. Their net run rate stands at +0.362. Delhi Capitals are left to play 3 matches, and to reach 17 points, they need to win the two fixtures. If they manage to win two matches, they will see themselves in the playoffs.

6) Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders are the defending champions in the league, but it has been an unfortunate run for them. They currently stand at the 6th spot in the point table with 5 wins and 6 losses. Their net run rate stands at +0.193. Kolkata Knight Riders are left with two matches in the league, and even if they win these two fixtures, Kolkata might fail to qualify for the playoffs. Their qualification for the playoffs will also depend on the results of the matches for other teams. It is a very risky situation, and Kolkata Knight Riders is walking on a thin line.

7) Lucknow Super Giants

Lucknow Super Giants had very high hopes before the start of the league this year, but soon their hopes disappeared when their key players failed to perform. They have a strong batting attack, but as the league entered the 3rd week, these strong batters failed on multiple occasions. Lucknow Super Giants faced 3 consecutive losses before the league was suspended, and that has put them in a vulnerable situation. With 10 points in their bag, Lucknow Super Giants might not see themselves in the playoffs even if they win the remaining 3 fixtures. Like KKR, Lucknow’s qualification will also depend on the results of the matches of other teams.

8) Sunrisers Hyderabad

IPL 2025 has been an embarrassing affair for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their overconfidence in their batting unit became their weakness, and the team is now eliminated from the league. Sunrisers Hyderabad is left with 3 matches at the league stage, and even if they win 3 matches, they won’t see themselves in the playoffs.

9) Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have struggled due to multiple reasons in the league. Their skipper, Sanju Samson, was injured at the start, and they saw Riyan Parag taking on the responsibility. Sanju Samson recovered from the injury but soon faced another blow with an abdominal injury in the middle of the league. His injuries and poor bowling attack impacted the performance of the team, and the Rajasthan Royals have been eliminated from the league.

10) Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings started with a win in the league in the first match but soon something shifted, and things drastically went south. The 5-time IPL champions are at the bottom of the point table with just 3 wins and 9 losses. They are out of the competition, and their season will end with the end of the league stage.
